2023 PFF ROOKIE RATINGS

 

ARIZONA CARDINALS

Running back Emari Demercado finished in the 97th percentile in rushing grade among rookies. He ran 58 times for 284 yards and two touchdowns.

Wide receiver Michael Wilson placed in the 92nd percentile in receiving grade among rookies. He was targeted 59 times and caught 38 passes for 565 yards and three touchdowns.


ATLANTA FALCONS

Running back Bijan Robinson led all rookies in first-down carries (51) and tied for fourth among all running backs in explosive runs.

Safety DeMarcco Hellams allowed only eight receptions for 36 yards in coverage.


BALTIMORE RAVENS

Wide receiver Zay Flowers placed in the 95th percentile in separation percentage. He was targeted more than 100 times and finished with 858 receiving yards and five touchdowns in the regular season.

Keaton Mitchell became a noteworthy contributor to the Ravens' seventh-ranked rushing unit (87.0) before going down with a torn ACL. He placed third on the team in rushing yards and first in rushing grade (92.5).


BUFFALO BILLS

Tight end Dalton Kincaid finished in the 80th percentile in separation percentage and the 78th percentile in yards per route run during the regular season. He was targeted 90 times, recording 673 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

The Bills' offensive line ranked 14th in PFF grade (68.4), and O’Cyrus Torrence played the most snaps of any rookie interior offensive lineman this season.


CAROLINA PANTHERS

The Panthers' rookies endured a rough campaign, and first-overall pick Bryce Young earned a 70.0-plus game grade only twice.


CHICAGO BEARS

Cornerback Tyrique Stevenson tallied four interceptions on 110 targets in coverage, and cornerback Terell Smith tied for ninth in run-defense grade (83.2) among all players at the position.


CINCINNATI BENGALS

Safety Jordan Battle excelled on his way to a 91st-percentile finish in run-defense grade. He made 15 stops and two tackles for a loss or no gain.

Although the Bengals ranked 20th in rushing grade (76.9), running back Chase Brown showed plenty of promise. He ran for 179 yards on 44 attempts and forced eight missed tackles.


CLEVELAND BROWNS

Safety Ronnie Hickman Jr. allowed a 50% completion rate on 221 coverage snaps, a top-10 mark among safeties. He ranked in the 92nd percentile in coverage grade (86.7).

Offensive tackle Dawand Jones recorded a 78th-percentile pass-blocking grade (73.0). He allowed only a 5.5% pressure rate and three sacks.


DALLAS COWBOYS

Defensive tackle Mazi Smith, despite significant struggles in run defense, finished in the 78th percentile in pass-rush grade without play action. He generated eight quarterback pressures on 155 pass-rush snaps during the regular season.


DENVER BRONCOS

Jaleel McLaughlin was the third-highest-graded rookie running back (86.2) and placed in the 95th percentile in rushing grade. He ran for 410 yards and one touchdown.


DETROIT LIONS

Sam LaPorta was the highest-graded rookie tight end this season and placed in the 87th percentile in yards per route run. He was targeted more than 100 times on his way to nearly 900 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns.

Running back Jahmyr Gibbs led rookie rushers in touchdowns (10) and was in the 85th percentile in rushing grade. He added 316 yards and one touchdown as a receiver.

Defensive back Brian Branch ranked third in tackles for a loss or no gain (eight) among rookies. He ranked eighth in run-defense grade among cornerbacks (83.6) after making 18 stops on 231 run-defense snaps.


GREEN BAY PACKERS

Edge defender Lukas Van Ness ranked sixth in pressure rate (11%) among rookies after generating 18 pressures on 182 pass-rush snaps during the regular season.

Wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks ranked in the 81st percentile in separation percentage and wide receiver Jayden Reed placed in the 85th percentile.

Tight end Tucker Kraft finished in the 91st percentile in receiving grade. He was targeted 39 times and posted 355 yards and two touchdowns.


HOUSTON TEXANS

Tank Dell was the third-highest-graded rookie wide receiver (83.4) and slotted in at the 85th percentile in receiving grade. He turned 74 targets into 709 yards and seven touchdowns.

C.J. Stroud, PFF's highest-graded rookie quarterback, finished in the 91st percentile in clean-pocket passing grade. He threw for more than 4,000 yards and 23 touchdowns.

Center Jarrett Patterson was the only qualifying rookie offensive lineman to allow no sacks this season, playing 277 pass-blocking snaps.

Will Anderson Jr. earned the highest grade among rookie edge defenders and led the way in quarterback pressures (59) and pressure rate (15.8%). He placed in the 82nd percentile in pass-rush grade.


INDIANAPOLIS COLTS

Wide receiver Josh Downs generated an 86th-percentile separation rate. He was targeted 94 times and finished with 771 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Cornerback JuJu Brents placed in the 88th percentile in single-coverage grade and 81st in forced incompletion percentage. On 295 coverage snaps, he allowed 32 receptions and 21 first downs.


JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS

Running back Tank Bigsby flashed potential in 2023, ranking second on the team in rushing grade (69.0) after recording 132 rushing yards and two touchdowns.


KANSAS CITY CHIEFS

Rashee Rice was the second-highest-graded rookie wide receiver in the regular season. He placed in the 75th percentile in receiving grade and the 96th percentile in separation percentage. He saw 100 targets, turning those looks into nearly 1,000 yards and seven touchdowns.

Safety Chamarri Conner earned a 92nd-percentile run-defense grade in the regular season. He made three stops and two tackles for a loss or no gain across 94 run-defense snaps.


LAS VEGAS RAIDERS

Tight end Michael Mayer finished in the 91st percentile in receiving grade. He saw 37 targets and racked up 304 yards and two touchdowns.


LOS ANGELES CHARGERS

Edge defender Tuli Tuipulotu ranked in the 86th percentile in run-defense grade and the 79th percentile in run-stop rate. On 339 run-defense snaps, he made 29 stops and seven tackles for a loss or no gain.


LOS ANGELES RAMS

Puka Nacua was the highest-graded rookie wide receiver during the regular season. He was targeted often and tallied the most first downs of any rookie receiver (68). He also led the class in yards per route run (2.59) and receiving yardage (1,486).

Defensive tackle Kobie Turner amassed the most stops (36) and sacks (11) of any rookie defensive player.


MIAMI DOLPHINS

De’Von Achane was the highest-graded rookie running back (92.4), tied with the Ravens' Keaton Mitchell. He placed in the 98th percentile in rushing grade among rookies. On 102 attempts, he rushed for 804 yards and eight touchdowns.


MINNESOTA VIKINGS

Jordan Addison recorded the most touchdowns of any rookie receiver (10). He turned 104 targets into 911 yards.

Ivan Pace Jr. generated the highest pass-rush win rate (21.7%) among all linebackers and placed in the 87th percentile in pass-rush grade. He also didn’t allow any touchdowns or 15-plus-yard plays into his coverage.


NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS

Guard Sidy Sow produced the highest impact run-blocking rate (18.9%), or positively graded plays, among rookie offensive linemen.

Cornerback Christian Gonzalez finished the season ranked 13th in PFF grade (80.8) among cornerbacks, although he played in only four games before a shoulder injury ended his campaign. Across 127 coverage snaps, he recorded one interception and no touchdowns allowed.


NEW ORLEANS SAINTS

Safety Jordan Howden forced an incompletion on 25% of targets into his coverage. He allowed only one touchdown and made eight stops on 373 coverage snaps.

Kendre Miller was a solid addition to the Saints' 17th-ranked rushing unit (79.1). He ran for 156 yards and one touchdown.


NEW YORK GIANTS

Quarterback Tommy DeVito placed in the 95th percentile in avoiding negative plays. He threw for 1,101 yards and eight touchdowns.

Wide receiver Jalin Hyatt ranked in the 99th percentile in average depth of target. He was targeted 40 times and picked up 373 receiving yards.


NEW YORK JETS

The Jets' offensive line ranked 31st in PFF grade (53.5), but rookie center Joe Tippmann stepped up after an injury to starter Connor McGovern. He earned the second-best grade on their offensive line and allowed a 3.6% pressure rate.


PHILADELPHIA EAGLES

Defensive tackle Jalen Carter was the highest-graded defensive rookie and generated the second-highest pass-rush win rate (17.7%) among rookie defenders. He racked up 49 quarterback pressures.


PITTSBURGH STEELERS

Cornerback Joey Porter Jr. let up a low open-target rate (28.3%) in coverage. He allowed just 24 receptions and one touchdown.

Keeanu Benton ranked tied for 12th in pass-rush grade among interior defenders (80.0). He generated 22 quarterback pressures on 270 pass-rush snaps.


SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS

Safety Ji’Ayir Brown placed in the 91st percentile in run-defense grade during the regular season. On 114 snaps, he made one tackle for a loss or no gain and five stops.


SEATTLE SEAHAWKS

Devon Witherspoon was the highest-graded rookie cornerback and tied for fourth among all cornerbacks. He made 11 stops and four tackles for a loss or no gain.

Wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba placed in the 87th percentile in separation percentage. He was targeted 90 times for 628 yards and four touchdowns.


TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS

Defensive lineman Calijah Kancey finished second in tackles for a loss or no gain (10) among rookies. He also notched four sacks and 36 quarterback pressures.


TENNESSEE TITANS

Running back Tyjae Spears placed in the 75th percentile in rushing grade. He ran for 452 yards and two scores.

Guard Peter Skoronski finished in the 79th percentile in run-blocking grade on gap runs.
