TFL CHAMPION REMAINS IN LANDRY CONFERENCE WITH SIN CITY VICTORY

James Washington's 67-yard TD pass is the game
winner in Godfathers 16-6 victory over the Flight

The TFL Championship kicked off on Thursday night in what would prove to be an epic battle. Sin City won the coin toss and choose to put their best unit on the field first by kicking off to Carolina.  The teams would exchange 3 punts burning the first half of the first quarter when Carolina made a great call! Noting the Godfathers had subbed in Montgomery for Kamara the flight sent Chandler Jones in on a LB blitz. Jones met Montgomery in the OT zone and rolled his great impact resulting in a Godfather turnover. Coach Wroblewski could be seen throwing his Microsoft tablet on the ground as he knew the key to this game's success lied in the turnover battle. Carolina started the drive at midfield, and they were able to get to Sin City's 31-yard line before being forced to kick a field goal. The Godfathers were forced to punt quickly on their next drive as they still had not figured out how to penetrate Carolina's Great Wall of 6's. Another dagger was shoved into the heart of Godfather' fans when Carolina connected on a 64-yard bomb to Mecole Hardman late in the 1st quarter. This set Carolina up in the red zone. Again, the Godfather defense would tighten up and hold the Flight to another field goal. The quarter would end 6--0 Carolina's lead, but the Flight would not score another point the rest of the game...

As the second quarter kicked off Tom Brady was able to string back-to-back successful drives. One went 68 yards and the other 74. Both would stall in the Flight red zone and the Godfather's would settle for 2 Randy Bullock field goals. Carolina's second quarter was uneventful with 2 punts and an errant interception by Deshaun Watson. The Godfather's would not be able to capitalize on the turnover though. The half would end with the teams dead locked at 6-6. The first of many key injuries occurred with 12:54 left in the 2nd quarter as the Godfathers lost star WR Allen Robinson and his unlimited catches for the game.

The third quarter was another defensive struggle The Godfather's would muster one more long drive that would go 14 plays and 67-yards before again stalling in the red zone for a third field goal. Disaster would strike the flight late in the third quarter on back-to-back plays. With 4:30 left in the third quarter star MLB Jayon Brown and part of the Carolina Great Wall of 6's would fall. On the very next play Marshon Lattimore was lost. The Great Wall was eroding fast. Tom Brady would not be able to take advantage of the eroding great wall and the 3rd quarter ended in a tight game 9-6 Sin City.

Carolina put together a nice 12-play drive that spanned the end of the 3rd quarter and the start of the 4th quarter, but it would stall at the Godfather 13-yard line. Ka'imi Fairburn would miss the 30-yard FG attempt! Tragedy would strike the Flight defense yet again with 11:06 left in the fourth. The third piece of the great wall of 6's would fall as Jamal Adams went down to injury. With the wall of6's (now missing 3x 6-rated players) all but blown up, Tom Brady knew it was time to take advantage of the backups scattered across the defensive field. On 2nd and 10 James Washington went streaking down the field and hit a long gain off the D card that rolled a 12 for a TD. In the end Washington would traverse 67-yards and put the Godfathers out front by 10. The scoring was over at this point, but the injuries weren't. The Flight would suffer the loss of Richie Incognito and the Godfather's would lose Kyle Fuller. Ka'imi Fairburn would miss another field goal with 2 minutes left. The miss proved critical as it would have pulled the Flight within 7 and have a chance for an onside kick. The damage had been done. Carolina had been torpedoed by multiple injuries and two missed field goals.

Both teams really had each other's offense on lock down. Until the injuries it was a game of injuries and it was near impossible for either team to maintain the long drives. In the end Carolina's night was sunk by injuries and missed field goals.

As for the Godfathers they win their 2nd Championship in two years, they keep the trophy in the Landry West where it has remained for 4 years now (Truly the best division in all the TFL).  They also right an egregious wrong and help Tom Brady win his first TFL Championship title.
