Game Story | |||||
Robert Woods was fantastic as the visiting team from Sin City bested Golden State by the score of 23 to 7. Woods burned the Golden State defense with 12 catches for 158 receiving yards. David Montgomery carried the ball 21 times for 109 yards and added a touchdown. Sin City consistently beat Golden State on third down, converting on 8 of 13 opportunities. They controlled the ground game, out-rushing Golden State 201 to 46 yards. Sin City had the advantage in time of possession, having the ball for 36:25. Dak Prescott passed 31 times for 267 yards adding a touchdown for Golden State, in a losing cause. |
It wasn't the home field advantage Golden State had hoped for. With Covid lockdown measures banning sporting events in California the game was relocated to Arizona's Armagegeddome. This neutral field was a short jaunt from Las Vegas and the number of Godfather fans at the event dwarfed the turn out from California. The 13th man made their presence felt early and often as the Godfather defense would hold the Rooks high powered offense scoreless until the waning moments of the 4th quarter. The first quarter saw sloppy kicker play as Randy Bullock would have an extra point blocked and was returned by Justin Houston all the way to the Godfather 9-yard line for what was almost an odd 2-point score! The 1st quarter ended on further kicker failure when Brandon McManus missed a 33-yard FG attempt. In the end the 1st quarter would end with a Godfather 6 - 0 lead.
The second quarter would see the Godfather's extend their lead by two more TD's. The last one thrown by Jameis Winston who had to enter the game with 2 minutes left in the half. Winston would drive the team 66 yards, manage the clock beautifully and cap the drive with an 11-yard TD strike to Allen Robinson! Fortunately for the Godfather's Tom Brady was able to tough it out and return to game play at the start of the 3rd quarter. The half time score ended 20-0 advantage Sin City.
The Godfather's started the 3rd quarter and would drive all the way to the Rooks 3-yard line before having to settle for a field goal and extending their lead 23-0. The game would remain at this score for the next 23 minutes. The Godfather's played bend but don't break defense and ran down the clock while on offense for a majority of the second half. It was George Kittle who played the hero and put up the first and only scoring drive for the Rooks and prevented a shutout. With 2:00 minutes left in the 4th quarter Kittle would get the best of Tyrann Mathieu and go 85-yards for the lone Rooks score. The subsequent onside kick was recovered by the Godfathers and the clock run out from there. Final score Sin City 23 - Golden State 7.
For the Godfather's it was an unusually quiet day for Tom Brady while the tandem of Kamara and Montgomery combined for 202 yards on the ground. In fact, Brady would only connect with 4 receivers on the day and a 12 of his 20 completions went to Robert Woods.
Defensive star of the game goes to Kyle Fuller who had 2 interceptions off Dak Prescott. In the end the game ball goes to the entirety of the Godfather defense who held Golden States #1 scoring offense to just 7 points.
